Is preparing tea as as easy as tossing a bag from boxed tea into hot water?

The answer is no!! Absolutely NOT!

When it comes to herbal tea blends and green teas, you’re not experiencing maximum results if you’re buying them in a box or a bag. The best way to enjoy the medicinal, calming benefits of tea is to purchase them in bulk as a loose tea blend. As a clinical herbalist, Dawn Marie loves creating herbal tea remedies and calming creations. She always sells them as a loose tea blend for a few reasons.

Quality Control and Shelf Life

When you purchase boxed tea you have no way of knowing how long it sat in a warehouse, delivery truck, or on the shelf at your local health food store. Tea doesn’t have an infinite shelf life; as it sits, it it dries out and loses its medicinal properties. And what’s the point of drinking herbal tea if you’re not benefiting from ALL the amazing healing effects?

Loose herbs only have a life span of about a year, if they’re stored correctly. When you purchase a loose tea blend from Flowersong Herbals & Massage, you can be sure that they’re fresh enough to deliver the results you’re looking for.

Controlling the Amount of Herbs for Each Cup of Herbal Tea

This is extremely important! Most tea bags contain 1 to 2 teaspoons of herbs. We recommend using 3 to 4 tablespoons of herbs for a truly medicinal cup of tea. Herbal tea was one of the first forms of ancient medicine, and we can still benefit from the healing properties of tea—if we use a the proper quantity of loose organic herbs.

Another very important part of the preparation of tea is the amount of time you steep the herbs. Many people follow the instructions on the box, steeping their tea bag for a minute or two. This isn’t enough time to give the herbs a chance to break down and release their medicinal properties.

We recommend steeping our herb blends for 15 to 20 minutes. Yes, that long! Our favorite method involves using a bamboo strainer, which gives the loose tea plenty of room to bloom. You can also buy empty tea sachets from Amazon and fill them with your favorite herbal blend.
